Low Blood Pressure: Hypotension

Our body has a definite blood pressure. A drop in the normal pressure is a condition termed as hypotension, more popularly known as blood pressure. Our normal blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg. In Hypotension, the heart pumps the blood out of the arteries with much low power than it should normally. Some of the main causes include imbalanced nutrition or malnutrition, emotional instability, blood loss,etc. Lethargy, weakness and dizziness are the most common symptoms of low blood pressure. A person may even faint, if the blood pressure gets extremely low.
Low blood pressure can, however, be treated naturally, using some home remedies.

Home Remedy For Low Blood Pressure


  • One of the prime reason for low blood pressure is Dehydration. So to control it, consume lots of water.
  • Another well known remedy is Lime Juice. Take 250ml of water & add 1tbsp of sugar & lime in it. Stir well & drink.
  • Beetroot is also beneficial for hypotension. So include it in your diet.
  • A cup of strong black coffee will be handy in case of low blood pressure.
  • Fill your bathtub with lukewarm water and add one kg of salt to it. Immerse yourself in the bath for 15-20 minutes, before going to bed. Do not expose your body to a cold area after this.
  • Soak 7 almonds and in a bowl of water & keep them overnight. Prepare a paste. Take this paste with lukewarm milk.
  • Soak 30 raisins in a bowl of water & keep overnight. Chew them on an empty stomach, in the morning.
  • Holy basil works effectively in curing low blood pressure. Chew raw 5-6 basil leaves every morning empty stomach.
  • Include salt, asafetida and fruits in your diet.
  • Foods rich in proteins, vitamin C and vitamin B are effective in treating low blood pressure.

 Ayurvedic Remedies for Low Blood Pressure:
  • One can take turmeric along with milk every morning. Also they can mix turmeric with aloevera paste & consume it in the morning, empty stomach.
  • Hingvadi churna, Vaishwanar churna & Ashwagandha churna are well known medicines for treating low blood pressure. dosage would be 3-6 gms followed by lukewarm water.
  • Add 15-20 gm of Indian Spikenard (Jatamansi) in 250 ml water and boil it. Let it cool down. Drink this infusion thrice a day.
  • Cinnamon, black pepper and cardamom are also excellent ayurvedic home remedies that are effective for low blood pressure. Include them in your daily diet.
  • Ashwagandharishta is also effective in Hypotension. Dosage 10-20 ml.

Yoga Treatment for low blood pressure: 

Following Asana (postures) are to be practiced in the morning to get benefit in Low Blood Pressure.



Note: While performing the Sarvangasana, be sure that you will able to do it. If you doubt for even 1%, I suggest not doing it. If comfortable you can practice it against the wall.
