After an irritating and hot summer, there arrives a season of utterly natural coolness and relief; called Monsoon or the rainy season. Mostly people all across the globe love the rains after those hot and scorching days of summer. They like to welcome the rains with all their affection and so do I. We all know how heavenly the relief feels when first drops of that rains touches our body who is taken to toll by those scorching rays of the sun.
But is monsoon so good for skin as you think ?
What kind of desirable and undesirable changes it brings with it on our skin ?
How to repair the damage done by rains on the skin ?
What are the home remedies to try for healthier skin during monsoon ?
These are some of the questions that are going to be answered in this post.
First of all, let me tell you a fact; that humidity is not good for your skin. More the humidity, more is the damage to skin. Skin reacts very badly to the humid and moist climate. The first thing you will notice is unstability of your skin. Means, it will be touch too dry on some day and on other day, it may be equally oily. Consequently your skin tends to loose it lustre and tone. So it becomes utmost important to take care of your skin stability and protect it from humid and moist atmosphere as far as possible.
Here are some of the tips for skin care in monsoon:
1) Do not over-wash your face in monsoon. Wash your face only 2-3 times a day as overwashing will lead to over production of oil by your skin and make it oily which I know you certainly will not like.

2) One of the most common mistakes women make during monsoon is that they stop using sunscreen lotions. You need to continue the use of sunscreens even in cloudy weather. It is very prevalent belief that sunscreens should be used only in summers, but that's not true. You must continue using sunscreen lotions in monsoon and winter too. Apply a sunscreen having SPF of 15 or more. Nowadays, sunscreen with SPF 21 are also available. Another alternative is to choose a product that combines a sunscreen with a moisturizer.
What is SPF ?
SPF means Sun Protection Factor which is calculated using this equation.
Take the time you would normally burn in the sun without protection, 20 minutes will normally produce redness on a light skinned individual.
Multiply this number by the SPF of your product. Example: with an SPF 15 x 20 minutes of sun time = 300 … is how many minutes you can stay in the sun without burning. 300 minutes divided by 1 hour of 60 minutes = 5 hours of sun protection without a sunburn.
3) Do not bleach your skin or go for facials in monsoon as bleaching aggravtes the skin damage and facial will make your skin rough.
4) Skin toning is one of the most demanding challenge in monsoon. So the best way to tone your skin is waxing. Alternately, you can also try manicure and pedicure.
5) When exposed to heavy rains, always take a bath with lukewarm water followed by steam bath if possible. This will not only remove the accumulated harmful rainwater and dirt from your body but also give you a refreshing touch.
6) Massaging is good way to combat irritation caused by harsh rainwater. But be careful about the product you choose for massaging. The massaging product you choose should not be allergic or irritating to the skin or it will aggravate the condition rather than curing it. I advice palm massaging.
7) Do not use heavy make-ups during monsoon. It will look really horrifying when exposed to rain and will irritate your mood and skin, ultimately resulting in waste of time and money.
8) Use gentle scrubs. A good scrub and facial exfoliant can help remove dead skin cells from your body. Dead skin looks very bad, as you know. You must add this scrubing to your cleansing routine weekly. This will surely make you feel fresh and in addition, your skin will be free from all that old dry cells.
That's it for now. Have a healthy Monsoon.
