Diabetes Home Remedies

Diabetes is a condition in which the body comparatively has high level of glucose than Insulin and the excretion of the excess glucose in the urine. In simpler words, Diabetes is a disease in which the body either does not produce or does not properly utilize insulin. The body is unable to produce insulin; which converts glucose to glycogen. This increases sugar (glucose) level in the blood.  Mostly obese people are more prone to this disease in middle or older age, it is also common in the youth as well. The normal sugar content should be 80 -120mg/100 ml of blood. Symptoms of diabetes include hunger, weight loss, thirst, urination & dehydration. In severe cases, vision disorders are also caused.
Diabetes is of two main types; Diabetes mellitus & Diabetes insipidus. Diabetes is gradually emerging out as a big problem in the world at large. Its surprising that people are wasting lots of money for the treatment while its available in every possible household across the globe.


Home Remedies For Diabetes:

  • Indian Gooseberry (Amla) is a classic remedy of diabetes. Take about 15-20 fresh gooseberries. Put 5-6 vertical cuts on the length of each gooseberry. Dip all of them in pure water. Now add turmeric powder & salt as per taste in that water. Stir after every 2 hrs. keep it for 5 days or till the colour of the gooseberry turns yellow. Consume it before meal but not more than 5-6 slices. 
  • Mix equal amounts of turmeric powder and dried gooseberry powder & consume it twice in a day with honey regularly.
  • Mix equal amounts of gooseberry juice and fresh turmeric juice. Intake this mixed juice on an empty stomach daily. 
  • Bitter-melon or bitter gourd is also age-old remedy for curing diabetes. Have 20-30 ml of bitter-gourd juice regularly. You can also fry the bitter-melon and add salt and other condiments to it.
  • Consume 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar thrice a day to relieve of diabetes.
  • Take about 3-4 mango tree leaves and boil them in water. Consume this water when warm.
  • Mix 3 tbsp of cinnamon powder to 1 litre of water. Heat this water for 15 minutes. Strain this mixture and use the water to drink when warm.
  • Jamun (Syszygium cumini) are very good at treating Diabetes. Chew 3-4 leaves of jamun twice a day. Also you can mash 3-4 leaves in half a cup of water and drink it.
  • Another recipe would be: dip 50-60 gms of fresh ripe Jamun in 300 ml of boiling water and cover it. Mash the jamun after 30 minutes of soaking and strain it. Drink this juice thrice a day.
  • Soak few almonds and keep them overnight. Eat them first in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Take a jar of water and immerse the peels of green plantain in it. Drink this water 3-4 times in a day.
  • Another easy home remedy would be to chew two leaves of neem in the morning.
Note:
  • Consuming more gooseberries then indicated can cause Hypoglycemic effect & consequently decrease your energy levels.
  • Those patients who are suffering or have suffered from any neurological disorder in past should avoid the use of gooseberries.


Diet

  • First & foremost, avoid sweets & sugar.
  • Diabetic patients should increase the consumption of soya beans, celery, cucumbers, string beans, onion and garlic in their diet.
  • Avoid the use of proteins as it will produce load on kidneys & can cause even Kidney failure.
  • Intake of fats should be limited as its digestion gets affected by the limited production of pancreatic enzymes.
  • Mainly, intake of limited simple carbohydrates should be emphasized.
  • Encourage intake of plenty of fresh vegetables, orange, lemons, bitter fruits and herbs.
  • Include dietary fibres as main diet.
