Itching Home Remedies


Itching, medically called pruritis is the common problem felt by everyone in most part of their lifetime. In most simple language, itching means irritation of the skin. The person longs to scratch the affected area constantly. Scratching the affected area can sometime seem very nice & relieving but can create further problems as the skin might get bruised and infection can spread very easily. It can even be painful at the later stages. itching has wide variety of causes. Dry skin and infections are prime causes for itching.
Others include exposure to chemicals, sunburn, cold weather, overexposure to water, insect bites or stings and hot baths. Itching can be localized to a single part or can affect vast area of the body depending upon the severity.


Home Remedy For Itching
  • Neem (Margo) is very useful in treating itchiness. Boil some neem leaves and pour the decoction in the boiling water. Now apply the lukewarm decoction of Neem leaves on the affected area.
  • Another simple way to treat itching is to have bath with 2 cups of oatmeal in a tub with lukewarm water.
  • Mint and basil leaves are known to be good topical anesthetic. Make their individual paste and apply it on affected area to get relief.
  • Sprinkle some cornstarch on the affected area. It can be poured in the bath water as well.
  • You can also add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in your bath tub. This also works well against itching.
  • Apply cold compress or an ice pack to the affected area. This will reduce the itchiness.
  • Taking bath with lukewarm water is also beneficial in treating the itchiness.
  • Take honey and cinnamon powder in equal proportions. Make a fine paste out of it and apply this on the affected area. This would stop itching.
  • In a bathtub filled with water, add a cup of white vinegar. Soak the body for 5 to 10 minutes. It will reduce itching.
  • Apply the paste of coconut oil and lime-juice on the affected area. This is a good remedy to cure itching.
  • Include foods rich in Vitamin C, beta-carotene, Vitamin E and zinc in the diet.
