Pinworms are parasites who live in the intestines of humans; mainly children. They are thin in shape and white in color. The most common symptom of pinworms is burning sensation and itching on the rectum. Symptoms mainly start appearing after children have meal. Main reason for itchiness is the movement of worms inside the intestine. Stomach cramping on the lower abdominal area is observed in children with pin-worms.
The children suffering from pinworms often complain about anus hurting and sleeplessness.
Home Remedies for Pinworms:
- Garlic is very effective & ageold remedy in treating pinworms. The simplest way to use garlic is by eating it raw. If your child can't tolerate the taste, simply add plenty of indirect garlic in their foods. You can also make a paste of garlic by mashing it with required amount of water & apply it on rectum of your child. It would provide relief from itchiness.
Note: avoid use of garlic if your child suffers or has suffered from Acidity. - Coconut is widely used to treat pinworms. Take 1 tbsp of fresh coconut followed by 1tsp of castor oil after three hours later. Repeat this each day until pinworms are gone completely.
- Carrots are also very beneficial in treating pinworms. Taking raw carrots before and after sleep may help your body fight pinworms out of the intestines. Some people may not find it tasty so you can also mix it with some honey.
- Cut off the intake of carbohydrate and sugar rich diet.
- Pinworms cannot live in acidic medium so its advisable to increase the acidity of your digestive tract up-to healthy limit. So you can add 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to one glass of water and drink it everyday. Another way of increasing the acidity of the digestive tract would be increased intake of citrus fruits.
- Take mild laxatives to clear bowel movement & check constipation. Pinworms develop well in constipated bowel.
- Mild enema can also be taken if the patient is co-operative.
- Pinworms are contagious so be very specific in maintaining hygiene. One should not scratch the rectum even if itching appears to stop increasing the infection & spread. Do not use the same material as used by the patient like bedsheets, towels, etc.
