As the name suggests, I will not have to elaborate its meaning any further. Irregular periods is an abnormal variation in length of menstrual cycles in a female. Usually variations of cycle length is not more than eight days between the shortest and longest cycle lengths. Length variation between 8 and 20 days is considered as moderately irregular cycles. Variation of 21 days or more is considered very irregular.
What should be length of ideal menstrual cycle ??
A "textbook period" happens every 24-29 days, but in truth what is “regular” covers a wide range. Cycles between 23-35 days are very common. Irregular periods are simply what is irregular for you.
For the most part, there's nothing to worry about a missed period or two over the course of a year. More variation than that may indicate to us the beginning of perimenopause or a hormonal imbalance that controls menstruation.
Factors responsible for irregular periods are:
- Significant weight gain or loss
- Uterine abnormalities (fibroids/cysts/polyps/endometriosis)
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome/Estrogen dominance
- Hormonal imbalances related to perimenopause
- Overexercise
- Poor nutrition
- Smoking, Drug use, Caffeine, Excessive alcohol use
- Eating disorders
- Increased stress
- Medications
- Chemotherapy
- Recent childbirth, miscarriage, or D&C (Dilatation & Curretage; a gynecological procedure)
So what next ?? Lets have a look at some of the home remedies:-
1) Keep yourself hydrated:
2) Citrus fruits:
Eat citrus fruits or take their juice in diet as they enhance iron absorption which easily is depleted during menstruation.

NOTE: NEVER CONSUME ALOEVERA DURING PERIODS.
7) Turmuric:
Turmuric is very much like cinnamon in releiving menstral pain & regularizing it. Take 1/2 to 1 tsp of turmeric with lukewarm milk twice daily for at least a month to see its miraculous effects.
8) Coriander:
Coriander is serious menstrual promoter. Add coriander seeds to milk (at least 2 cups) & boil till half of the milk remains. Strain the seeds out & drink it lukewarm. Drink it once a day for at least a month.
9) Fennel seeds:
Soak 2 tbsp fennel seeds overnight & strain the solution in the morning; drink it daily for a month.
10) Carrots:
Carrots are good source of iron & they too have a immense positive role in regularizing menstrual cycle. Include carrots in your diet or carrot juice can prove handy.
